Wine Description:
The 2023 Non-Tradition Grüner Veltliner from Christian Tschida is a captivating departure from the norm. Crafted from two distinct vineyard sites—one on calcareous soil and the other on a steep schist slope—this wine showcases the complexity of Burgenland's terroir. Pale yellow-green with silver reflections, it offers delicate aromas of honeydew melon, mango, and meadow herbs, underpinned by a mineral undertone. On the palate, it reveals medium complexity with flavors of white apple, peach, and a precise, salty finish reminiscent of lime zest. This wine is a testament to finesse and is ideal for pairing with a variety of dishes.
Producer and Winemaking Philosophy:
Christian Tschida is a fourth-generation winemaker based in Illmitz, Burgenland, Austria. He cultivates approximately 14 hectares of vineyards, with a significant portion located in the Purbach/Leithagebirge region, known for its elevation and unique terroir. Tschida's approach to winemaking is rooted in minimal intervention; he employs spontaneous fermentation, avoids fining and filtering, and refrains from adding sulfur. His philosophy centers on producing wines that are fresh, elegant, and expressive of their origin, reflecting a deep respect for nature and tradition.
