Shaw & Smith Pinot Noir 2023

The 2023 Pinot Noir shows refined complexity, with lifted aromas of dark cherry, spice and brambly forest floor. The palate has tension and shape, guided by fine tannins and bright acidity, yet it moves with the effortless grace that only a cool vintage can deliver. Subtle at first, it gains depth and presence with air—quietly powerful and deeply expressive.

The 2023 season, shaped by a third consecutive La Niña, was cool, wet and remarkably late, resulting in excellent natural acidity and beautifully defined flavour. Despite the long wait on the vine, mild conditions and timely rainfall kept the fruit healthy through to harvest.

Sourced from vineyards in Piccadilly and Lenswood, the fruit was hand-picked and sorted in the vineyard. Fermentation of whole berries and a portion of whole bunches was kept slow and gentle to capture purity and finesse, before maturation in French oak for eight months. The result is a Pinot Noir of clarity, elegance and underlying strength.
